Since our foundation we have been running an international shipping business by chartering our owned ocean-trading ships. Having reached the 40th anniversary in 2012, we, all officers and staff of the whole Kumiai Group, are working together for even more progress and development of our Company for the 50th anniversary.
The Lehman Shock in 2008 caused a drastic change in the business environment of international shipping. While lots of new ships ordered during the boom years have been delivered year by year, the demand for ships declined drastically because of the long-running depression in the world economy. Consequently, over-supply of ships became common and the shipping market is staying at very low level for a long time, except for some gas carriers such as LNG or LPG ships and off-shore project ships, which are supported by the shale gas boom. On the other hand, ship owners have to meet the global demands of reduction of the earth-environmental load (such as to air or ocean) by ships operation, furthermore to the request from the charterers of the reduction of the fuel consumption and improvement in the efficiency of navigation in this high fuel oil price situation.
We are quickly adjusting to the changed situation above. We sincerely respond to various demands from the parties concerned to make a comprehensive study on and carrying out “safe”, “reliable” and “efficient” operation of the ships even under such a depressed shipping market. We are always eager to be enthusiastic and creative regarding ship transportation, to keep our financial status healthy and strong. We aim to be a company which can flexibly and realistically challenge to find better solutions for various problems we may have. We believe only a company such as this can be trusted by all the stakeholders including world-wide charterers and cargo owners.
We globally employ and open up opportunities for talented people who have sympathies for our Company philosophy. We every day endeavor to promote and keep our people’s motivation high under the principle of fair competition, and we respect and accept the culture and tradition of different countries to be a global company, no matter how small, acceptable to the world.
We recognize that we conduct our business in a global environment and we are supported by the global environment and our business cannot be successful without its support. Therefore our Company’s basic philosophy is “Co-existence with the Environment”. We do hope that each officer and staff of our Company sincerely understands “Co-existence with the Environment” to fulfill his/her duty to society and the earth’s environment. We will maintain a good relationship with local communities and grow, develop together, through various kinds of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities.
